International Migrants Day

According to the United Nations’ 2020 World Migration Report, there are an estimated 278 million international migrants in the world today.

That represents about 1 in every 30 people.

It’s very likely that you know a migrant personally. Perhaps even, you are a migrant. Yet, no matter what your connection to migration is, it has a profound impact on the livelihood of billions around the world. Every day, thousands of people risk their lives in search of a better life. Many, unfortunately, perish.

That’s why, on December 18th, the world celebrates International Migrants Day, a date to raise awareness about the challenges and difficulties of international migration.

To mark the occasion, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Caritas Brasileira will be hosting Panas 2020, a photographic exhibit in 9 Brazilian capitals. 46 photos have been selected by IOM Brazil to be projected on buildings, parks, and other sites across the country. The exhibit will also be available online for those who are unable to attend in person.

Amongst the 18 featured photographers is Human Voices’ own Rafael Forsetto. We are honored to be a part of this exciting event and look forward to sharing more information on our upcoming communications project on migrants in Brazil shortly.
